The 35th Gastronomy Festival invites you to discover the flavors of Santarem and Portugal

"Discover Santarém while you taste Portugal" is the motto that resumes the proposal and the big aims of the 35th Gastronomy's National Festival, which runs from the 22nd October to the 2nd November at the Campino's House of Santarém.
To mark the best of these 35 years of existence, the event has several new features with the creation of the so-called Snack Square, the launch of the Enogastronomico's Ride of Ribatejo, the presentation of a new website and the beginning of the thirteenth restaurant dedicated to meals for groups of people by appointment.

Created in 1980, the Gastronomy's National Festival of Santarém has been one of the great standards of the Portuguese gastronomy. The economic crisis and the missing of the Tourism of the Ribatejo Region forced, in recent years, to reduce the size of the event which continues, though, to be one of the most representative in the Portuguese Gastronomy's Events. The Gastronomy's National Festival is now organized by Viver Santarém (escalabitana municipal company) with the support of the Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo. This evolution has led also on a progressive bet to work on the festival as an Heritage disclosure of Santarém and taking into account its tourism potential.

Ceia da Silva, the president of the Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo, highlights the characteristics that differentiate the National Gastronomy Festival, highlighting also the importance of structuring the tourist products in a region where tourism demand has been growing on a steady way. Just only on last July that increase in visitors was around 30%, record that da Ceia da Silva considers it follows from the work the Regional Entity of Tourism, which she chairs, has been conducting with the Council of Santarém, particularly in gastronomy terms.

The Councilman Luis escalabitano added for each ticket, it is offered a guided visit by the Historic Centre of Santarém, in order to get people to discover Santarém. This is also why the theme of this 35th. National Gastronomy Festival edition of "Discover Santarém while you taste Portugal". The goal is to exceed the 40,000 visitors recorded in the last year's festival.

In Campino's House, located in the city center, there are restaurants / taverns representatives of the different regions of the country. The big thing, is the installation of a 13th themed restaurant, the "Lucky 13", which only will serve dinners by appointment limited to 50 people per meal, delivered to a chef who will change daily (with the exception of the opening day and day Festival closing). The aim is to submit a kitchen based on the traditional matrix of this festival without forgetting the new values of gastronomy.

Another new feature is an area reserved for small taverns and snacks and strengthening of so-called agroprodutos. The Snack Square will be installed in the cloister's center of the Campino's House, with five pubs, which aim to "recover the tradition of the National Gastronomy Festival", serving snacks from different regions of the country. The space of the archades of the Campino's House will only be occupied with producers, including an area of the Association of the Portuguese Public Entities of Wine, which organizes the 2nd. National Wine Salon.

Wine in Azores returns to Sao Miguel

During the 8th edition of the largest wine festival Azores, which takes place between the 16th and 18th October, visitors can taste some of the best wines made in Portugal, watch showcookings and taste regional products.

The Wine in Azores, which sees itself as "one of the largest exhibitions of food and wine from Portugal", will have the presence of "about 120 producers nationwide, with hundreds of vinic options," announces the organization in a statement. The event takes place in the Exhibition Centre of the Associação de Agricultores of São Miguel, in Ribeira Grande, between 16th and 18th of October, and the expectation is that at the end of the three days, the number of visitors exceeds 12,500 people.

Despite of being an exhibition dedicated to the portuguese wine, the event also has a strong gastronomy component, this year under the slogan "taste the wine made from the land and sea". During the event, there will be several sessions of showcooking with portuguese chefs, including three awarded Michelin Star : Leonel Pereira ( São Gabriel Restaurant ), Pedro Lemos ( Pedro Lemos Restaurant ) and Ricardo Costa ( The Yeatman Hotel ).

Over the three days of the exhibition, visitors can still taste the present wines, spirits, oils and tonics and taste in the gourmet taverns the "dishes made by regional and national chefs with the best products of Azores, such as meat and fish".

The daily ticket costs € 5 and it can be purchased at the ticket office at the entrance of the event or in advance at the Tourist Post of Ribeira Grande, in the AASM Restaurant in Arrisca. There are also special packages of three days (12 € ) or three days and cup (15 € ) in www.virtualazores.com site.

The Wine in Azores takes place between 15h30 and 24h on the 16th, opening an hour earlier at the weekend. The tasting area will close at 22h on Friday and at 21h on Saturday and Sunday, and the catering areas and selling wines will stay working till the time of closing event with showcooking and many kind of animation.
